Morning session after work

Posted by Tim Hughes on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, In : Short sessions
Just a quick entry today as I'm tired after two nights at work. This morning I decided to give a full day session a bash as a friend had some success a few days before during daylight hours.

I arrive at about 09:30hrs and cast out the one rod I'd taken with me. I had gone back home to get my 'Super paste' that I'd forgotten and it was only 5 minutes into my session that I was glad I had.

A small, but well appreciated Barb.

I caught three more in quick succession before deciding to change swim in...

Another evening with the Boy Steve.

Posted by Tim Hughes on Monday, September 5, 2011, In : Short sessions
My mate Steve was up for the weekend again and as is usually the case I was working. I decided to go down for a few hours on the Sunday when I finished my second day shift and fish with him for a bit.

I arrived to hear that Steve had already caught 8 during the afternoon, but it had gone quiet for the last few hours. As I sat down and asked how he'd been his rod hooped over and he was into number 9. I must be a lucky charm!!

I fished in the peg next to him, which hasn't always been the best to ...

5 on the Super Paste

Posted by Tim Hughes on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, In : Short sessions
After a busy few days I decided to take the chance to hit the banks for a couple of hours this evening. Armed with my rod, centrepin and Super Paste I set off, not really expecting to get my favorite peg, but to my surprise it was free.

I started off on the pin, casting perfectly on my first attempt!! I waited with heart in mouth as I am getting a real kick using my pin. Within 10 minutes my rod ripped round and I lifted into a fish, but the pin over span as I didn't cup the drum well enough. ...

Super Paste or just good luck??!!

Posted by Tim Hughes on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, In : Short sessions
After a busy few nights at work the lure of the bank was proving irresistable. It was overcast and heavy showers were forecast, so I was obviously thinkin 'Barbel time'!

With the river still low and clear I like to fish in heavy rain as I feel it breaks up the glare and sunlight. I arrived at about half 5 in the afternoon and setup my new centrepin on my rod. Having never used a pin, I knew it could be a steep learning curve. My first cast landed about 6 inchs from the rod tip and the subseque...

An Evening with the Boy Steve

Posted by Tim Hughes on Monday, August 22, 2011, In : Short sessions
I got a call off a mate Steve, who I met through the website last season. He was up here ofr a few days, but sods law dictated that I was working the whole time apart from Thursday evening. I arranged to meet him at 18:30hrs at a venue that was fishing well.

I arrived to find Steve already fishing and having caught 6 Barbel during the afternoon he was already well pleased with himself! I suggested moving to another peg and fishing one rod a piece so we could catch up and talk tactics for the r...

Quick trip on a muggy evening.

Posted by Tim Hughes on Monday, August 1, 2011, In : Short sessions
I had had a long hot day, 20km training walk, cleaning, cooking etc and just fancied an hour or two on the banks. I headed to my favourite spot at about 5pm, arriving at my best swim for about half past. I set my gear up, two rods, 12lb line, and 10lb hooklink which is slightly scaled down from my regular 15lb as the water is very clear at the moment.

Nothing fancy this evening, just a plain lead to size 14 hook with my usual mounted on a hair below. I was feeding by hand as the water was very...

Hampton Loade

Posted by Tim Hughes on Saturday, February 26, 2011, In : Short sessions
After a night out I was up bright eyed and not so bushy tailed to head out for the day with Karl. I waited but unfortunatley due to Karl not been able to handle his ale I was to be on my own for the day. I couldn't decide wether to go or not, but eventually decided on a few hours at Hampton Loade after hearing good reports from the Unicorn section last weekend.

I picked a swim halfway along the beat with a comfortable area to fish one rod, which I am becoming quite keen on.

I tackled up and no ...

Erdington Brook

Posted by Tim Hughes on Friday, August 6, 2010, In : Short sessions
I decided on a spur of the moment short session somewhere local after the disappointment of the previous day at Severn stoke. I was going to Hampton Loade where I'd heard reports of a whopper being caught last week. I was half way there when a rather annoying Road Closed sign appeared. How rude!! I diverted to my favourite place, Erdington Brook.

I arrived to an empty carpark, which is always nice, and strolled down to the riverbank. I decided on the beach nearest the carpark and was soon setu...

Evening Short Session

Posted by Tim Hughes on Thursday, July 2, 2009, In : Short sessions
Well, after tieing some nice new hooklinks with my posh new braided line and Raptor hooks I set off for a short session by the river. I took only what was necessary- rod, reel, bankstick, net, chair, bait and a few bits and pieces. I have been using micro pellets in the feeder, but decided to go bacl to hemp after a few poor outings!!

I arrived at about 19:30hrs and began immediately bait dropping a good carpet of hemp. After spending 20 mins doing this I sat back and relaxed for about 40 mins...
