A wet night in the mud!

Posted by Tim Hughes on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, In : Fishing with Karl
Last week we had decided that we would fish the evening of my Birthday - the 20th August - and try to stay for the majority of the night. Suprise suprise it was slashing it down when we arrived at about 5pm, but hey the fish won't mind!

Anyway, we spent over an hour baiting up and setting our rigs up and then just sat back and listened to the rain on our brollies. Well I did, cause Karl was still obsessively setting up his little camp, whilst I had just plonked my chair in the mud and put my b...

Pete & I at Erdington

Posted by Tim Hughes on Thursday, August 12, 2010, In : Fishing with Pete
My old mate Pete hasn't come fishing with me for a bit and after seeing him at the beer fastival at the Pub next door we had arranged a bit of an afternoon trip out. Pete hadn't been to erdington brook for many years, and as it was my current favourite spot, I decided to take him there.

It was a gorgeous August afternoon. Sunny and warm, crystal clear waters and us with our fishing gear yomping along the banks to a spot I had earmarked for our afternoon. Pete seemed impressed with the swim i h...

Erdington Brook

Posted by Tim Hughes on Friday, August 6, 2010, In : Short sessions
I decided on a spur of the moment short session somewhere local after the disappointment of the previous day at Severn stoke. I was going to Hampton Loade where I'd heard reports of a whopper being caught last week. I was half way there when a rather annoying Road Closed sign appeared. How rude!! I diverted to my favourite place, Erdington Brook.

I arrived to an empty carpark, which is always nice, and strolled down to the riverbank. I decided on the beach nearest the carpark and was soon setu...

What a pair of Blankers!!

Posted by Tim Hughes on Friday, August 6, 2010, In : Blanking!!
Karl and I decided to have a crack at a larger size of fish than we usually catch. We decided on severn Stoke which is renowned for large barbel. Fishing the lower Severn is, if you'll pardon the pun, a different kettle of fish to fishing the middle severn. Its alot wider, much deeper and the boats......................dear god, the boats!!

I had got some background info of a new fishing mate Lawrence Brakespear. He told me a couple of swims to aim for and some tactics. So when we arrived arou...

Ironbridge

Posted by Tim Hughes on Monday, August 2, 2010, In : Fishing with Karl
As the hot weather fades to a distant memory, my thoughts were turning towards some quality Barbel fishing. Warm , overcast evenings are my favourite times to catch. I had decided to fish the Powerstation water with my mate Karl who is also a member of the club. When we arrived we were dissappointed to here that the fishing was s**t! We chatted to a group of chaps who had fished the waters for 25 years - they had caught just 3 barbel between four of them after just over 8 hours. They recommen...
